Did you know?
A cold, flu and pneumonia don’t have the same symptoms. Here are some symptoms NOT to neglect:
- Baby less than 3 months: rectal temperature greater than or equal to 38 ° C
- Baby from 3 to 6 months: rectal temperature greater than or equal to 39 ° C
- Vomit a lot
- Crying without stopping
- Difficult to wake up
- Pale or poorly colored
- Reacts little to others
- Wheezing
- Fever exceeding 41 ° C
- Makes a convulsion
If your baby has a fever AND has one or more of the above symptoms, seek medical attention soon. Here are some ways to help treat your baby’s cold:
- Drink more often
Breastfed baby? Breastfeed him more often. Bottle-feeding baby? Think of offering him water often. It is important that your baby stays well hydrated. - Blow baby’s nose several times a day
Whether it's with a nasal aspirator or a nasal bulb, it's important to keep your baby's nasal passages as clear as possible: Even if he doesn’t necessarily like that, he'll definitely enjoy breathing easier. - Humidifier
The Canadian Pediatric Society confirms that the use of steam can drain the airway and cause no adverse effects. It is ideal to keep a humidity level between 30 and 45%. You don’t have a humidifier or you don’t want to buy one? Simply wet a large towel, twist it slightly and hang it on the child's bedroom door. - Avoid self-medication
Never give your baby medication without first consulting your pediatrician or pharmacist. Sometimes even if you want to do well and you want to help your baby at all costs, often the best is to do nothing. Many over-the-counter medications are not recommended for children under 6 years of age. Ask a professional before you try medications, it's important!
